Grooming can be a stressful experience for some pets, and sedation may be necessary to ensure their safety and well-being, as well as the groomer's. Here are a few common reasons why sedation might be recommended.
Some pets become extremely fearful or aggressive during grooming due to past trauma, lack of socialization, or general anxiety. Sedation helps keep them calm and prevents them from injuring themselves or the groomer.
Pets with severe matting may require extensive grooming that can be painful or uncomfortable. Similarly, cats with certain medical conditions (such as arthritis, skin infections, or neurological issues) may not tolerate handling well. Sedation ensures the process is done quickly and pain-free.
Some Pets simply will not tolerate being bathed, brushed, or clipped. Sedation allows necessary grooming to be done without prolonged struggle, which can be traumatic for both the cat and the groomer.
In some cases, sedation is used as a humane option to reduce stress and prevent injury. It ensures the pet remains still and relaxed, allowing the groomer to work efficiently and thoroughly.
Note: Sedation should always be administered by a licensed veterinarian or under veterinary guidance. We do not sedate animals on-site, but we accept sedated pets for grooming with prior veterinary approval.
